Beginning/End of Semester Checklist

This checklist is provided to help you start or end the semester. Unless we hear from you, we will not touch your course site. Your site will remain active or as is. There is no need to send us an email.

Beginning of Semester Checklist

REQUEST A NEW SITE
Request a new Blackboard site and student enrollment
Check your roster 48 hours after requesting student enrollment: Control Panel > List/Modify Users > List All
Before class starts, check to make sure your site is available to the enrolled students: Control Panel > Settings > Course Availability -- If you do not make your site available, your students cannot access the site.
Register now for one of our training sessions. If you want a one-on-one consultation, please send an email to classes@emory.edu

USE AN EXISTING SITE

If necessary, Archive your site and/or Export your gradebook so that previous students' information is recorded.
If necessary, remove previous students. {Instructions}
We can recycle your users for you but only if you make that request when you complete the site request form.
Archive your site before removing users.
Request student enrollment
Before class starts, check to make sure your site is available to the enrolled students: Control Panel > Settings > Course Availability. If you do not make your site available, your students cannot access the site.
Check your roster: Control Panel > List/Modify Users > List All

NOTES:

You can enroll your TAs, Course Builders, Students and more. Click here to see how!

To change a user's course role, access Control Panel > List/Modify User > search for him/her > click the Properties button > scroll down and Change Role > Submit.

When requesting enrollment for an official academic course, it is extremely helpful to us if you know the PeopleSoft ID and section number (ex. ENG_101_002). OPUS or your registrar should have this information.

End of Semester Checklist

Make your site Unavailable to students via Control Panel > Settings > Course Availability. Students will no longer see the site when they log in to Blackboard. This will not change your access.
Download your gradebook. If you have problems, please send an email to classes@emory.edu.
Archive a copy of your course. If you have problems, please send an email to classes@emory.edu.

Remove usersRemove your students via Control Panel > Recycle Course >Select Users > Submit.
Select only the Users box to remove students. You can request that we remove your students. Send an email to us at classes@emory.edu or note this on the site request form for next semester or when you next use the site. -- If you do not specifically tell us to remove the students, we will not remove them.

NOTE: Before asking us to remove the students make sure you've archived or saved all student-related information.

It's never too early! Request your site for next semester.

Required Maintenance

Save a copy of your Gradebook and Archive a copy of your course often

NOTE: If you should ever need a copy of your course restored to the Blackboard server, it's much easier and faster to do so using your archived copy (of one course) rather than our copy of the entire Blackboard database. It could take days or even weeks.
